Introduction

On April 5, 2021, Meesho, a social commerce platform headquartered in Bengaluru, India (Refer to Figure I for Meesho’s logo), announced that the company had joined the unicorn club . The company achieved unicorn status after raising US$ 300 million in a funding round led by SoftBank Group Corp. of Japan. The existing investors of Meesho – Prosus Ventures, Shunwei Capital, Knollwood Investment, Facebook, and Venture Highway also participated in the funding round. With the latest round of funding, Meesho’s valuation rose to US$ 2.1 billion and it became the fifth startup in India to join the unicorn club in 2021.
